On the bench above Crown Lake, heading to Slide Mountain (11,084') and Mule Pass, where the trail drops into the Yosemite Wilderness beneath the Sawtooth Ridge. Solo trips like this one into the Sierra Nevada interior wilderness have been a tradition over my birthday in August for more than 30 years.
