Studying to be Junior Rangers: For my 50th birthday, I decided to celebrate by having my family -- especially my then 10-year-old daughter (right) -- go to the place my parents took me to when I was about 10: Redwood National and State Parks. She complained the whole way there (from Florida), then had a blast. In this photo, she and two of her cousins didn't let darkness stop them from working on their Junior Ranger booklets.
