In my opinion, ptarmigan are one of the most interesting birds in Colorado. They have an uncanny ability to hide in plain sight, they molt into a beautiful white coat of feathers in the winter and move together in large flocks. This particular bird was photographed near the top of Mount Evans about an hour east of Denver on a fall morning.
