Moonbow forms in the mist of Yosemite Falls at about 2AM during the supermoon on May 7, 2012 in Yosemite National Park, California. Half Dome is visible on the right. A moonbow (lunar rainbow) is a rare event which occurs when moonlight is strong enough to create a rainbow in a source of mist, the spray from a large waterfall, in this case. Due to the dim light, human eyes usually only see a gray band. However, long exposure photographs readily reveal vibrant color at night.
