A hike through Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness in late spring reveals the presence of two harlequin bugs engaging in seemingly surreptitious mating.
If there isn’t enough interaction, the bugs’ temporary home is decomposing a fallen log. Beneath the harlequins, a red varnish mushroom can be seen latched onto the susceptible tree.
This species of stinkbug, identified by distinctively orange and black markings on its back, belongs to the family Pentatomidae.
