The eastern escarpment of the Sierra Nevada in Sequoia National Park and the Alabama Hills as seen from the Owens Valley. The drive northward through the valley features the most dramatic landscape I've ever seen. Just hours earlier, I was standing at the lowest point in North American in Death Valley, and from here I could see the highest point in the contiguous US, Mount Whitney (the zigzag line up the mountains at the center left is the road to the Whitney Portal).
