Alma, Wing-on-Wing. The scow schooner Alma, built in 1891, was historically was used to haul hay and grain from the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta in Calfornia to San Francisco, to be loaded onto oceangoing ships. Its unique flat bottomed design enabled it to land onto mudflats for loading, then refloated with the tide. This photo depicts Alma on the Scaramento River in Isleton, Calfornia during an outreach program.
