Quite a juxtaposition exists in this photo if thought about for a moment. First it seems a quite ordinary picture of a small wooden building in a field, but quickly you then see some of the most magnificent mountain peaks in the United States above some rather nice fall color. After admiring the Grand Teton (and friends) for a moment you then glance quickly to the top right. What is that? An airplane coming in for a landing at Jackson Hole; the only airport in a national park. Thinking for another moment you may arrive at how much has changed just in this photo. This is Menor's Ferry Smokehouse, built at a time when only one person was willing to homestead in this remote valley. The land seen as little more than a convenient ferry location for the handful of rugged individuals to harvest lumber and hunt. As seen today, this landscape, history, and wildlife residents are truly a national treasure to be saved for generations to come.
