While riding the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad in May from Skagway, AK to Fraser, BC we passed through the Tongass National Forest from the inlet in town then climbing to above the tree line witnessing many of the various ecosystems the forest offers. Uniquely, we also traversed the trail of the miners of the gold rush in 1898 with many of those miners taking this same train to the fields beyond. In this photo we are just below the tree line with now shorter sitka spruce and the snow covered mountains beyond as the locomotive is about to turn to the right and approach the tunnel.
