Knife River Indian Villages honors the Hidatsa tribe that called this region home for hundreds of years. Many of these earth lodges can be seen as bumps in the hills throughout the park, and this one has been recreated in the original style. Before serving as guide for Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea lived here for quite some time before her famous expedition began in the winter of 1804-1805.
