Joshua Tree National Park has a deep history rooted in Native American cultures, including the Serrano, Cahuilla, and Chemehuevi tribes, who lived in harmony with this desert landscape for thousands of years. The area later saw miners and settlers in the late 1800s, and in 1936 it was protected as a national monument before becoming a national park in 1994, preserving the meeting point of the Mojave and Colorado deserts.
