This photo was taken along the McCarthy Road headed toward Kennicott Glacier. Wrangell-St Elias is an enormous wilderness. It includes four mountain ranges with nine of the highest peaks in North America. I drove between 10 and 30 miles per hour on the McCarthy Road which was pitted with potholes, bumps, dips and frost heaves - but scenic. Along the route a bald eagle glared down at my disruption, native fishermen used nets to capture salmon along the Copper River, birds sang and chipmunks scurried across my path as I traveled through forest, beside meadows, raging rivers, cascading waterfalls and the remains of old railroad brides built in the early 1900's.
