For the past year, an on-going eruption has been occuring in the Kīlauea Volcano Halema'uma'u Kaluapele (crater), with spectacular eruptions of fountaining lava and lava rivers that stream across the kaluapele nearly every two weeks. These eruptions are breathtaking, both visually and in other ways sensorily. The lava as it rises from the two vents sounds like the crashing of big waves against a shoreline. It is incredible to witness this island building process and one cannot be present and not feel the tremendous spiritual sensation of these events. The first photo was taken on March 26, 2025 and was episode # 15. As of today, December 29th, 2025, we have now witnessed 40 eruption episodes. In this photo, a towering fountain of lava skyrockets into the sky, with large amounts of tephra falling to one side, while the endemic tree of Pele (the Hawaiian goddess of the Volcano) blooms with flowers the color the lava in the foreground.
The second photo was taken on the very 1st day of this continuing eruption, December 23, 2024. The third photo was taken on March 2, 2025, during the 9th eruption episode deep in the night and shows both the vents that have been erupting for a year.
