During winter migration thousands of snow geese along with sandhill cranes spend the night in waters of Bosque del Apache to protect themselves from predators. I set up my camera gear near dawn to capture the moment when the geese took their first flight of the day in search of fields throughout the Middle Rio Grande Valley. As they took to the air it sounded like a burst from a cannon.
