after a nine mile hike we took in this stunning view of Colchuck Lake with a perfect halo surrounding the sun. it was almost as if there was an eclipse happening with the lighting and cloud cover. learned afterwards that this halo affect is a natural phenomenon caused by sunlight refracting through hexagonal ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds. felt blessed to experience this on our hike
