When we visited Rocky Mountain National Park this past July, we spotted this red-tailed hawk just inside the Grand Lake entrance. The hawk was perched in a tree ravaged by the 2020 East Troublesome fire which burned nearly 200,000 acres and was the second-largest in Colorado history.
Even though I captured this photo from a distance with a 500mm lens, the hawk heard my approach and pivoted just his head to scrutinize me.
