My sister and I hiked to the General Greene tree in the eastern portion of the park. It is located on a short side trail off of the Bates Ferry Trail. It is the largest bald cypress in the park (by circumference). The East had many huge trees prior to colonization and subsequent logging but tracts and patches of old growth still remain. Although the West has the largest trees, the East was not a laggard when it comes to tree size. My sister is included looking up at the tree to give proper perspective of its size.
