"Nature's Crossing" - A bull moose crosses a misty river in the Tetons one frosty morning. Getting the shot took planning and lots of research. I had tried for this photo the year before with no luck, and this year bought special waders giving me access to a low angle in the water. During winter in Grand Teton National Park about twenty bull moose congregate in a specific area of sage flats where a hot spring maintains water flow. My elderly friend Steve invited me to keep him company for safety on this trip, and each morning we tried our luck hoping for a moose crossing until everything aligned perfectly on the 5th day. Wildlife will always drink in the morning, and picking the right spot on a long river takes preparation, patience, and luck. As the sunrise heated up frost, a dreamy mist filled the air and added to this breathtaking moment. Moose have always fascinated me since my childhood of taking road trips up from New Jersey to Maine; a fun fact is their antler is the fastest growing bone in the animal kingdom, gaining about 1 foot each month-- sometimes as fast as one inch per day-- until they shed them mid-winter. They are massive majestic miracles of the animal kingdom.
