This photo shows the easy part of the Maryland Heights Trail which starts in lower town and then ascends 1,781 feet to the top of the cliffs. People that are unable to traverse the climb can walk on fairly level ground like this up to the base of the cliffs and still see the beautiful Potomac River and its surroundings. They can also see some of the historic buildings and the visitor center. The more experienced hikers have the option of climbing to the cliff overlook. Being 70, I chose these young people to be my trailmates and they made sure I made it to the summit.
