Despite 4 million visitors to Acadia National Park in 2024, very few people ever venture up Northeast Creek, a virtually unknown pocket of the park on the north end of Mount Desert Island. Most of the roughly 2-mile tidal creek is in Acadia, interspersed with land managed by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust and the Downeast chapter of the Audubon Society. Beyond where the water is more Old Mill Brook than NE Creek, just short of where it becomes impassable from the efforts of an industrious beaver, a vibrant copse of trees lines the eastern bank within Acadia. On a still autumn day with the fall foliage reflected on Northeast Creek, it's the most beautiful stand of trees on the entire island.
