During a fall trip to central CA, I attempted to visit Kern National Wildlife Refuge, only to find the Refuge closed to visitors that day for hunting. As I was leaving the Refuge and heading back north, a Red-shouldered Hawk flew overhead and landed on one of the self-guided tour route signs in the Refuge.
