On my first ever visit to Point Reyes, I headed out before sunrise, only to find the local roads socked in with dense late October fog. The lower parking lot at Point Reyes Light was empty when I arrived, still in thick fog. The road to the lighthouse was closed, so I followed the signs and I hiked up the steep road, eventually getting above the fog layer. Sunrise was still 40 minutes away and I proceeded higher until I had a sweeping view to the north. Magical light as the fog slowly dissipated with the arrival of sunrise. Several blacktail deer and a lone coyote foraged around me.
