We were driving on the Going to the Sun Road, next to Saint Mary Lake, when suddenly a vehicle from the opposite lane pulled into and across our lane and parked on the side of the road next to us. This meant one thing: there was likely wildlife in the adjacent field.
It didn't take long for us to find a cinnamon phase black bear meandering in the meadow next to us. We watched it for a bit, while I took pictures from the safety of our car. The bear disappeared behind a small grove of bushes, so we creeped forward to see what it was doing. Suddenly, the bear stood up on its hind legs, showing off it's magnificent catch, a Columbian ground squirrel!
I was able to get two pictures before the bear dropped to all four legs and wandered off in the opposite direction.
