This photograph was taken in March 2025 from the top of the Lost Mine Trail in Big Bend National Park. This photo represents a bit of a personal triumph. The Lost Mine Trail is one of the most desirable hikes in the park due to the incredible scenery and view from the top. However, there is very limited parking and you have to arrive very early in the morning to snag a spot. The first time my father and I hiked the trail, it was cold, windy, and foggy, so we could not appreciate the view. The next year, we returned on a beautiful early morning, but the parking area was full. This March, two years later, we got there just as the sun was coming up, and managed to get the last parking spot. Getting the experience the view of Lost Mine with my father (who is in his 70s) was a tremendous joy. This picture captures the majesty of the vista and the remote beauty of Big Bend National Park
