My friends and I hiked into Gates of the Arctic after visiting Prudhoe Bay and the Arctic Ocean. The mosquitoes were horrendous, and we called the peak we went up 'baby caribou' peak after our tour guide told us a story about how baby caribou can be killed by mosquitoes. It was still a great trip, and we got to see the midnight sun from the North Slope, looking out onto the Tundra. The drive itself was also very scenic (most of it belongs to a different wilderness area than the Gates of the Arctic NP).
