When I was on one of the paths at the Valley of the Ten Thousand Smokes, I was excited to see a female grouse. Then the next day, on the Cultural Site Trail, we came across this male grouse. What pretty plumage! I can imagine that the ancestors of the Alutiiq and other native Alaskans would have made a meal of these birds, but for me, they're just a beautiful vision.
