We took a ranger tour into the Valley of the Ten Thousand Smokes. As we passed each section, he told us about the Novarupta eruption of 1912 and how it changed the terrain and the lives of the natives living there. We were able to take a hike into the area, experiencing the majestic cliffs made up of hardened ash that formed over one hundred years ago.
