I happened upon this beautiful little owl on my latest winter trip to Yellowstone National Park, what a hard bird to spot. The northern pygmy owl, not much larger than a common sparrow is tiny but a ferocious hunter sometimes that will wait for hours on prey to pass by, songbirds are on their diet, along with insects and small rodents. These apex predators will often cache the left over food and enjoy at a later time, leftovers. Another wonderful species you could possibly see on your next visit the the park.
