I saw three elk walking across a river on an early foggy morning. I was standing among a thick lodgepole stand out of sight. They entered a forest across the river, and then no more than 15 seconds from when they entered the forest they came running back to the river and right in front of me. I can only assume a bear or wolf scared them out of the woods because there was no public access on that side of the river. This is a picture of the smaller bull. There was also a larger bull and a cow with him.
