"Window of the West"
Peering from within the Wukoki Pueblo at Wupatki National Monument is a gateway to the past. Standing here and viewing the same sights and landscapes that the indigenous peoples once saw when they inhabited this dwelling, was one of the most profound experiences I've had on my travels. In this moment, I wondered what thoughts people must have had when gazing from this very spot. Were they worried of drought, or excited for long awaited rain? Were they made content by a sunset of a fulfilling day? Did they make dreams for the future and wonder what the landscape might hold for them? Were they curious of what may lay just beyond the horizon? These questions and so many more brought this historic site and culture to life.
