Western gulls nest on Anacapa Island each spring/early summer. Here, an adult watches over two hatchlings, who are starting to explore a little bit and seem curious about the visitors. The young birds are fuzzy, dappled, and look almost nothing like the adults. They camouflage well with the surrounding environment on the island.
