As I understand it, a fairy ring happens when younger redwoods sprout up in a circle around an older tree, as if to protect it. Here, our son shows my father (his grandfather) an example of a redwood fairly ring along a well-maintained trail in the Prairie Creek area of the redwood forest. This was my father’s first visit to the redwoods and, of course, he was not disappointed!
