There are 1,000's of sunrise photos taken at Mesa Arch with the light of the rising sun illuminating the bottom side of the arch. I have never seen any taken at a Moonrise where the Moon is illuminating the bottom side of the arch. This was my second attempt at this, having shoot the Moonrise once before in 2020. This image was shoot on June 4, 2023 at 10:04pm. The previous evening I had shoot the Moonrise through Delicate Arch. We drove out on Island of the Sky earlier in the afternoon and did some sunset shots. Then we went to Mesa Arch about 9:30pm. I loaded up my gear and put on a headlight to hiked out to the arch. When I arrived at the arch there was one other lady there waiting for the Moonrise. As the Moon rose I began shooting. I caught this one just between when the Moon was above the horizon and before it disappeared behind the cloud. This was shoot at f/2.8, 6 sec. exposure and ISO 6400 at 24mm.
