This photo was taken at Keys Ranch location in a canyon at Joshua Tree National Park. It is the abandoned homestead of Bill Keys where he and his wife reared five children. He managed operations at the Desert Queen mind until it closed in 1917.
The Keys decided to stay and built a life which included growing crops and raising livestock for food in the midst of this desert environment. Mr. Keys also provided services for others who mined precious metals in the area.
