Our visit to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on April 30, 2024 was hampered by a swarm of earthquakes that prevented our family from driving the Chain of Craters Road. So we went in the other direction, driving along Crater Rim Trail and stopping at the different overlooks around Kilauea crater. At Uēkahuna, we came upon these beautiful offerings of orchid lei and red anthurium flower arrangements wrapped in ti leaves. Kilauea may be just a volcano to a visitor, but for native Hawaiians, it is a physical manifestation of Pele and worthy of worship and offerings.
