My son, who is 12 in this picture from last summer and has autism, completely lit up when we visited Great Sand Dunes at the end of a two-week trip camping and visiting parks around Utah and Colorado. He often tires of the outdoor adventures I try to get him excited about, but this day at the dunes, he spent hours running, splashing, and digging in the sand in the creek. It was the most free and content I saw him the whole trip - water and sand have always been his happy place, and this photo catches a little bit of the joy he was radiating that day!
