A young grizzly was grubbing in the meadow just west of the Roosevelt ranger station and was gathering a bit of attention from the humans driving by. I stopped and joined the crowd.
As he slowly crossed the meadow and approached about midway a coyote came into view until he was near the bear circling, snarling and growling. Apparently there was a den a little north of the ranger station and he didn't think the close proximity of the grizzly was appropriate.
This not only got the attention of more humans but a herd of buffalo became interested in the commotion and 3 of them wandered over to investigate. The bear either sense them there, heard them or caught a glance out of the corner of his eye and turned to look. He apparently made eye contact and they charged and it was off to the races with the bear in retreat, the coyote nipping at his heels and the buffalo making sure he left.
