After spending their breeding season on the islands in the Gulf of California, Elegant Terns start arriving along the California coast when or if northern anchovies become abundant over summer and fall months. The juvenile terns can make the long journey but still rely on their parents for food. As the sun rises, mama tern brings back an anchovy for her eagerly waiting child.
