Along the Hall of Mosses Trail in the Hoh Rain Forest of Olympic National Park some trees grow out of "nurse logs," or trees that have fallen like these root systems of two large trees that are overlapped by the roots of a third, younger tree. The nurse log underneath has partially rotted.
