New and Old Get Along! The two bridges, one historic (now a pedestrian bridge) and one new, represent one of only seven land crossings of the Colorado River for 750 miles. The bridges were built near the Old Spanish Trail, that forged the Colorado River, along the rugged slopes of Glen Canyon. "In March of 1864, pioneer Jacob Hamblin and his men built a raft at the mouth of the Paria and made the first successful crossing at the point on the Colorado River that would become Lees Ferry."
