Let's Trade! Between 1828 and 1867, Fort Union was the most important fur trading post on the Upper Missouri River. Strategically located near the confluence of two mighty rivers, the Missouri and Yellowstone, it was a thriving international community where men and women from diverse countries and cultures traded goods (similar to a modern-day department store).
