Before my trip to Alaska, I had watched countless nature documentaries showcasing the wildlife and scenic beauty there. So, when I found out my mom and I were heading to Homer, AK that summer, I eagerly began planning. I was especially excited about photographing bald eagles, but as our trip neared its end, I still hadn't gotten a photo I loved. Then, while walking on the beach at Lake Clark National Park with our guide, we spotted a juvenile eagle feeding on fish scraps. After an hour of waiting, it finally came close enough for me to capture this incredible shot, with its eyelid glazing over its eye. The contrast of the pebbled beach and blue ocean adds depth to the photo, making it a moment I still can't believe I captured.
