Thanks to the record-setting rainstorms at the end of 2023/early 2024 that washed over California, Lake Manly, which dried up thousands of years ago, reformed on the floor of Death Valley, centered around Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America. This phenomenon delighted visitors, park rangers and scientists alike. This photo taken in February 2024 documents the view across Death Valley toward Telescope Peak with floodwaters standing in historically dry Lake Manley. Snow is on the mountain peaks but salt crystals are on the ground; kayakers and paddle boarders enjoyed the moment under the eye of the photographers.
