Before my trip to Alaska with my mom this past summer, I had a bucketlist of photos that I wanted to capture. One such photo on that list was to get a closeup photo of a bald eagle glaring straight at my camera. Upon our arrival in Lake Clark National Park after 2 days in Homer, AK, I had yet to see a bald eagle even just soaring. During our second day at a private bear camp in the park, we were walking along the beach looking for grizzlies to photograph when off in the distance we spotted a juvenile bald eagle huddled around a fish carcass, likely left by a grizzly. We slowly approached the juvenile, ensuring we were not making it uncomfortable with our presence. After around 20 minutes of waiting, the eagle slowly waddled towards our group and I took this photo while his blue, translucent eyelid fluttered over his eye. This photo is one of my favorites of all time due to the blurred ocean in the background and the contrast between the eyelid and the water color makes the photo appeal to the audience.
