Our first hike in Lassen Volcanic National Park was Bumpass Hell. My wife and I had been hoping to see a pika for years, and not more than 30 minutes into the hike we were treated to an awesome sight. This pika ran across the trail in front of me, stopped on a rock, and posed for photographs while it ate its morning meal. I'm so grateful I got to see and photograph this representative of a species critically threatened by climate change.
