"Encountering a Desert Icon: Gila Monster"

In the rugged landscape of Dragoon Mountain's west side, I stumbled upon an ancient, venomous gem - the Gila Monster (Heloderma suspectum). This majestic creature's vibrant, bead-like scales glistened in the sunlight, showcasing nature's artistry.

As I carefully observed from a safe distance, I respected this reptile's space, adhering to Leave No Trace principles. No disturbance, no disruption - only admiration and awe.

Gila Monsters, listed as Near Threatened, play a vital role in controlling pest populations. Habitat preservation and responsible exploration are crucial for their survival.

Let's explore responsibly:

- Stay on designated trails
- Avoid disturbing wildlife
- Pack out trash and waste
- Respect protected areas

By embracing Leave No Trace ethics, we safeguard fragile ecosystems and ensure future generations can marvel at these incredible creatures.
