I was walking around a small pond with my mom that we stumbled upon while taking some backroads through the park. All of a sudden two common goldeneyes took off from the opposite side of the pond, flying right towards us. I quickly raised my camera, tried to get eye level with the bird, and took a burst of around 50 photos. The still and dark water allowed me to capture the rich contrast between the goldeneye's simple yet elegant plumage and the pitch black water.
