Few hiking trails in the United States bring more to the table than the Appalachian Trail. The Grayson Highlands of Virginia are often considered one of the highlights of the 2200 mile footpath from Georgia to Maine. Few communities are more welcoming than the AT. While on this backpacking trip, we encountered many who were all too happy to discuss their hike, their time on trail, and stories of places that have touched them. And with 2/3 of the US population being within a day's drive of the trail, few trails are more geographically accessible.
