Hiking in western Colorado's Plateau desert can present many colorful plants and scenes. My favorite desert wildflower is the resilient Claret Cup Cactus (Echinocereus triglochidiatus), is also the official cactus of Colorado. I loved how this set of flowers was coming out of a boulder with the background's brilliant sky and the warm desert colors.
