My partner and I spent a weekend exploring Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and one of it's most popular hikes takes you down through the jungle and under the earth into a 500-year old lava tube. The guides at the visitors center informed us that the tube was formed by a subterranean river of lava, evidence of one of the many eruptions from the world's most active volcano - Kīlauea.
